A disposal installation joins three trades under one sink: plumbing at the drain, electrical at the switch and the mechanical mount to the sink flange. We handle the plumbing and mounting with care so the unit runs quietly, drains well and stays sealed.
The causeWhy it happens
Disposals wear out. The grinding chamber corrodes, the motor seizes, or a leak develops at the bottom of the unit where the internal seals fail. Leaks from the housing cannot be repaired, so replacement is the only fix. First-time installs are common too, especially after kitchen remodels or when a dishwasher is added and needs to drain through the disposal.
DiagnosisWhat we check first
- 01Electrical supply
- We confirm there is a switched outlet or hardwired circuit under the sink. If not, an electrician will need to add one first.
- 02Drain height
- The disposal outlet must sit above the drain pipe entering the wall, or water will stand in the trap arm.
- 03Dishwasher connection
- If a dishwasher drains through the disposal, the knockout plug inside the inlet must be removed and an air gap or high loop set.
- 04Size and horsepower
- We match the unit to how much you cook and to the space in the cabinet.
The optionsWhich repair fits, and when
We lay out the choices plainly, explain what each involves and leave the decision with you.
Direct replacement
Same mounting style, same drain height. The old unit comes off, the new one goes on, and everything is tested under load.
Replacement with new drain parts
Old slip joints and tailpieces are corroded or cracked. We replace them with new parts while the sink is opened up.
New installation
No disposal before. We mount the flange, reconfigure the drain and connect the dishwasher if needed.
Local conditionsGarbage Disposal Installation on the west side of San Antonio
Many west side kitchens drain into cast iron or older PVC lines that already carry grease buildup. A new disposal will not fix a sluggish main line, so if your sink drained slowly before the old unit failed, we may suggest clearing the drain line at the same visit.

A few things that help
Empty the cabinet under the sink. Tell us if you have a dishwasher and whether the outlet under the sink is controlled by a wall switch.
QuestionsCommon questions about garbage disposal installation
Can a leaking disposal be repaired?
A leak at the drain or dishwasher connection can be. A leak from the bottom of the housing means internal seals failed, and the unit must be replaced.
What size disposal should I get?
For most households a mid-range model is plenty. Larger units handle heavier use and tend to run quieter.
Do I need a separate outlet?
Most disposals plug into an outlet controlled by a wall switch. If there is none, an electrician will need to install one.
